Limerick’s First Gay Pride Festival
3 09 2008The award for the most psychadelic website ever created has to go to the people behind this years Limerick Pride Festival. Check it out but I’d advise you to wear your sunglasses doing so!
This must surely be the last Pride event in Europe this year, so if you’ve haven’t been to a Pride this year then I’d advise you to go along. Festivities kick off this Sunday, September 7th and run right through to the following Sunday. The parade itself takes place on Saturday September 13th and starts out from Perry Square. Maps of the route and info on events taking place all next week are available on the site linked above.
This is Limerick’s first major Pride festival and they are hoping for a massive turnout. It’s great to see the gay community outside of Dublin starting to become more vocal and generate awareness. How else will we ever catch up with the rest of the world in terms of equality and gay rights? On that check out Maman Poulets recent post’s on how “Irish Rail staff are being advised in the art of enforcing heterosexuality in regards to the pursuit of free travel in the state.”
It’s just insane that such policies are still being enforced in a “modern Ireland”. Other countries have civil partnership rights, gay marriage, gay adoption and here us Irish gays are still battling to use a bloody “companion” train pass! I mean come on!!!

Arrgh that is a very bright website indeed! Great news for Limerick though.
Definitely…all Ireland needs now is a lesbian bar..like Vanilla in Manchester…and we’ll really be coming on leaps and bounds!
