Wanna Volunteer Your Vagina?
12 01 2009Would you like to be part of art history? If you’re wistfully remembering Kate Winslet posing nude for Leo DiCaprio in Titanic then you probably need not apply. This particular artist is only interested in your vagina.
UK artist Jamie McCartney is currently working on a piece which will showcase 200 ‘vagina casts’. The artist is seeking 50 volunteers to put forward their privates in the name of art. Any woman can volunteer, however in order to produce best results you must have had a recent ‘close shave’ or better still a Brazilian….stands to reason I suppose. Pouring a seaweed-based plaster over uncultivated jungle pubes could cause all sorts of issues…I foresee a mammoth pruning session.
Design-a-Vagina
The title is a play on words according to the artist, commenting on the growing “vaginoplasty’ trend- a surgical procedure to amend ‘vaginal defects’.
Discussing “designer vagina” procedures McCartney states: “This modern day equivalent of female genital mutilation is a bizarre practice which suggests that one is better than another. Taste in nothing is universal and any desire for ‘homogyny’ could be very misguided.”
Just imagine having that piece mounted on your living room wall. What a conversation piece! Perhaps for the nymphomaniacs out there it could be some bizarre 3D checklist! Can you spot the cast above that looks like the mask from Scream??
The finished artwork will go on display at a London exhibition this Summer if you want to check it out.

too many vaginas…some, of which I’m not quite understanding..like the third from the right in the next to the last row….is she MISSING her vagina?
and for what it’s worth to the artist…I think one vagina CAN be better than another. Yes, I have vaginal pride.
