Want to go out and Dodge Balls?

12 12 2008

Hurray!!! Just found out that there’s a new lesbian night running in Dublin and it doesn’t happen once a year when a group of naked lesbians sacrifice the blood of an ox to the Lord of the Dance on O’Connell Street. It will be weekly. Yes WEEKLY. About frigging time!!!

The night is called ‘Dodgeball’…perhaps the best name for a lesbian night ever! A stroke of genius by the organisers!! It will be on every Thursday night in the Dragon on Georges St. Whatever will us Irish girls do? We can now choose between Dodgeball and the two monthly nights- CaKE and Kiss…look at the scene grow!!!

Dawn of the Dykes

23 10 2008

I think the God’s are conspiring against me. I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the host of new lesbian nights emerging on the Dublin scene at the moment. Last time round I missed CaKE which, by all accounts, was a great night. This time I’m heading away for the weekend and thus am going to miss another gal party- the fabulously named “Dawn of the Dykes”!

The Wonder that is Karaoke

21 10 2008

Who knew that karoke was the Great Wall that divides lesbians and gay men? Every Tuesday night is Karaoke night in Dublin’s ‘Front Lounge’ bar. I wandered in after the Sia gig last Tuesday- I’d never been before, as I usually stray no further than the couch on a Tuesday evening.

There is an unwritten rule in the ‘Front Lounge’- men up the back, women down the front (no smutty jokes please)- the steps halfway up the bar mark the great homo divide. So as we entered the bar we thought…’oh it’s quiet on a Tuesday’…then we heard the blood curdling sound of a guy murdering Mariah Carey’s ‘I Can’t Live if Living is Without You’ and random ‘whooping’ and thought we’d see what was going on. Sia Kicks Ass

15 10 2008

Last night I added another crush to my ever-expanding list…Australian singer Sia. I saw the quirky blonde play in Dublin last night and I swear she is infectious!

The band strutted on stage wearing glow in the dark outfits…the best entrance I’ve seen at a gig in a long time! Here’s Sia in the opening moments:

Sia Makes an Entrance

For a tiny little Aussie, Sia’s voice is amazing- strong and sensual- and her personality is like an extra band member as she chats to the crowd- getting everyone railed up! Her idiosyncrasies are as captivating as her songs, yet she seems so “normal” and approachable- wearing brown trousers and a loosely fitting pink t-shirt….not so loose to stop the crowd noticing her shapely “assets” and many sent notes to the front praising her “nice tits”! Dublin imports 24 German Barmaids for Oktoberfest

10 10 2008

The Paulaner Oktoberfest- you’re chance to experience “traditional German fun, food and entertainment”- takes place in Dublin’s Georges Dock from the 9th to the 19th of October. But why should you care?

Well there will be German food stalls so you can try Bavarian food…hmmm…still not keen? Well every year thousands of people head to Munich for the traditional Oktoberfest…mainly to gorge upon the Bavarian beers but also to ogle at the hundreds of German barmaids wearing their traditional outfits…the dirndl- a tight-laced, low cut garb designed to transform a regular German girl into a buxom beauty! But now you won’t have to go to Munich because the organisers are importing 24 “authentic Oktoberfest barmaids” to work in the marquee at the event! A reason to head along? I think so…especially if they look like this!

Stress Busting Sat-Nav Senses Traffic Jams

2 07 2008

Researchers from the University of Portsmouth have announced they’re working a sat-nav system which informs motorists of traffic jams along their route.

The in-car navigation system can sense traffic build up from up to 10 miles away by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to interpret live traffic info shared between vehicles which have a special GPS installed.

The system, of course has a needlessly confuffled name- CADRE- “Congestion Avoidance Dynamic Routing Engine”. Drivers will be able to keep their stress levels down as the sat-nav will flag alternative routes to help you avoid the traffic jams where possible.
CADRE may be on the shelves in 18 months time. I am sooo going to be at the top of the queue for this gizmo and I’d imagine I’ll have plenty of company. A recent survey revealed that people in Dublin spend an average of 55 minutes commuting to work. I barely spend 25 minutes on my way to work and it’s about as much as I could take. I thought a vein in my forehead was going to pop this morning…I’m sure this gadget will add a good five years onto my life expectancy!
