Want to go out and Dodge Balls?

12 12 2008

Hurray!!! Just found out that there’s a new lesbian night running in Dublin and it doesn’t happen once a year when a group of naked lesbians sacrifice the blood of an ox to the Lord of the Dance on O’Connell Street. It will be weekly. Yes WEEKLY. About frigging time!!!

The night is called ‘Dodgeball’…perhaps the best name for a lesbian night ever! A stroke of genius by the organisers!! It will be on every Thursday night in the Dragon on Georges St. Whatever will us Irish girls do? We can now choose between Dodgeball and the two monthly nights- CaKE and Kiss…look at the scene grow!!!

Hollyoaks gets Lesbian Storyline

20 11 2008

Producers of the British soap opera, Hollyoaks, have revealed that it will feature a lesbian storyline next week. Hopefully it will be longer and better than the recent “blink and you’ll miss it” lesbian kiss on Ireland’s RTE.

According to the spoilers, after a string of bad relationship with men, model Sarah Barnes (actress Loui Batley) ends up in a heated embrace with her dad’s girlfriend Zoe Carpenter (Zoe Lister) after a drunken night out. Classy huh? It gets better. The pair are away on a trip for one of Sarah’s modeling gigs and get drunk and end up in bed together back at their B&B. Not even a hotel. A B&B! Another boundary busting lesbian scene no doubt.

Poll Reveals UK Girls Want Drew Barrymore

11 11 2008

I’ve been wearing my “Drew Barrymore Rocks” badge for so long now that the letters are starting to fade but clearly I’m not alone in my lust for the ‘Charlies Angels’ star- In a poll by dating site ‘Gay-Parship.com‘, Drew Barrymore was voted the celebrity that most lesbians would like to date. Not only that, but she topped the poll with 49% of the votes.

Gay Saviours During Recession Times

3 11 2008

We’re not exactly spoiled for choice in Ireland when it comes to magazines aimed at lesbian readers. In terms of Irish publications there’s the free mag, GCN. Beyond that we can pick up a copy of the US mag Curve or the UK mag Diva- that’s if we visit one of the select outlets that sells these! We can now also download issues of G3- an English free mag. Yes our cup runneth over!

I browsed through a copy of Diva and G3 this weekend and was overwhelmed by the advertising. Ads for pet adoption, dating sites and sex toys filled many pages. Apparently there are two types of lesbians out there. Those desperately seeking love through singles nights and dating forums and those who have someone to do the bedroom tango with but are on a quest for the next colourful multi-noduled sex toy to send their relationship vibrating to the next level. Incidentally both of these breeds of lesbian either have pets or plan to have pets in the near future.

I work in media and so I am more than aware that publications, particularly niche publications, rely heavily on advertising. So I imagine that marketers and sales staff sat up in their chair when reading this article in the Evening Herald last week.

According to the Out Now GCN Readership Survey, gay and lesbian consumers can offer marketers a new and consistent stream of cash during recession times.

Dawn of the Dykes

23 10 2008

I think the God’s are conspiring against me. I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the host of new lesbian nights emerging on the Dublin scene at the moment. Last time round I missed CaKE which, by all accounts, was a great night. This time I’m heading away for the weekend and thus am going to miss another gal party- the fabulously named “Dawn of the Dykes”!
